Senior Associate Director
As senior associate director of University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, John H. Staley, PhD, is responsible for short- and long-term space planning, capital planning and construction, bio-emergency planning, and Safety and Security Services. Having been with the University since 1967, Staley previously served as chief operating officer for a decade.
He received his Bachelor of Arts in economics and business from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, in 1966. He attended graduate school at The University of Iowa, where he received a master’s in economics degree in 1969 and a doctorate in hospital and health administration in 1974.
Staley started working for the University as a research assistant in the Iowa Regional Medical Program in the Economics Section and, with the exception of military service, has been with UI Hospitals and Clinics ever since. Since 1977, he has been an adjunct assistant professor, and now professor, in the Department of Health Management and Policy, College of Public Health.
Staley is a diplomat of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of the American Hospital Association. He currently chairs or serves on many committees, including the Hospital Advisory Committee, Senior Executive Leadership Council, several groups and committees involved with emergency and disaster planning, and other groups and committees involved with facility planning and budget preparation. Staley has also published various health care-related articles and study documents. |
